A lawyer client thinks you did a great job on his case and wants to pay you a Bonus above and beyond your agreed rate and the invoice you submitted. What do you do?????
Does the lawyer ask you or just send a check? Depends on the circumstances, your relationship with the lawyer or any company policy about gratuities. Accept / decline, cash it or not. As long as your ethics and integrity stays intact maybe don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
My own personal policy on this is the following:
1. Never turn down extra income
2. Make sure the money is coming from the attorney and NOT their client’s disbursements
3. Report it on your sales as incomeI think if you stick to this guideline you should be ok.
